I was at school, a Junior at Kennedy High School. We were in an assembly, and when we left we heard that a plane had hit the world trade center. I didn't get it-i figured it was just a personal plane or something. Then the teacher turned on the TV in fifth period and we watched the towers get hit and fall, again and again. It was horrible. And it was only much later that i heard about people jumping-and falling and splatting and dying. Rumors were flying about a fourth plane that crashed in pennsylvania, and a fifth plane that was still flying. I've never been so scared in my life. All i could think was "what if they keep attacking us? what if we fall? what if we don't survive??"

I didn't know anyone in NY or the Pentagon, but I hurt every time i think of how many died. Or when I see the tragic beauty of that second plane angling its wings to take out as many floors as possible. Or hear "Let's Roll" or see a picture of those three firefighters and the flag. Or look at the candle i keep that i lit during our neighborhood candelight vigil-it's a plain white taper with wax drips and somber memories. On the radio Oldies 100 is giving profiles of those who died at the pentagon-that hurts too.

When will it stop hurting at odd instants, like when i see a picture of the old NY skyline and we joke-but not joke-about how that picture needs to be updated?

Or go see the construction work on the pentagon and the little memorials people leave on the hill where you can see the hole in the pentagon?

Or read about why Bin Ladin did it. It dosn't matter what god you pray to. Those were innocent people. And now they're dead.

On September 11, 2001, I was sitting in my Calculus class. My history teacher came into the room and said that the World Trade Centers were attacked. My Calculus teach didn't really pay too much attention to it and kept teaching us our lesson. Then I went to my Computer class and our teacher said that he was going to cancel class for the day because he knew that we all wanted to know what was going on. So everyone went online and read about the attacks. During my last class of the day, we just watched the news the whole period. When I got home I called my mom right away because I was worried about my dad and sister. They were on there way to Disney World and I knew that was a possible target zone. So I kept the news on all afternoon and worried about my dad and sister until they called later that night. I was so happy that they were all right. The next couple of days in school were spent discussing what happened and what we could do to help out the victims. I prayed for my cousins family because they lost a loved one in the crash and i prayed that they would be able to find the body. We need to pick ourselves up from this incident and move on now. It was a terrible event in our history, but now we need to pull together and move on. That's what the country is all about. Picking up the pieces of the past and rebuilding.

I was in my first class of the day, Study hall. The day started out slow. I was doing my homework, and all of a sudden the principal and vice principal, walked in and said," Can I have everyone's attention?...... the World Trade Center in New York has just been hit by a plane." It hit everyone like a ton of bricks. All day long, every teacher was watching it on their tv's. They even set one up for us in the commons for lunch time. It was a sad day, people were crying everywhere, and all of the teachers were moping around all day long. It was sad. It was hard to believe that something so far away could affect us in Wisconsin.
