I was on the road, driving from Columbus
to Upper Sandusky OH. My dad was on a
plane to NY, they made an emergency
landing. He tried to go standby on the
one before it, if so he would have been
in Manhattan right when it happened.
My wife works at the Columbus Airport,
she called me crying to say that they
couldn't make any more calls- she was
leaving to go to her mom's house until
I was back in town.
My brother was on a train from NJ to DC-
they were forced to get off in NJ. His
wife was trying to drive from Bethesda
MD into DC to take their dog to the vet.
She saw the explosion from far away,
turned around and went home.
I was so scared, and unsure- I just
wanted everyone back at my house...
The Today Show made me cry this morning,
I pray for everyone who is suffering-
I want to see someone pay for all this
pain.

I was sitting in front of the Tv waching the news on "abc" and then all of a sudden they interrupted with a special report. I could not believe my eyes. All "HELL" was breaking loose. I thought it was some sort of a sick joke or a commercial plug for for a really bizarre movie, but it was 'real'. I kept waking my Husband up every five minutes to tell him all the goings on, but he was oblivious, because he prints one of the major newspapers in the state of Washington; The Tacoma News Tribune. I cried, when I watched, he got up and couldn't believe his eyes. We sat there thinking, "how could someone be so inhumane"? MY husbands newspaper did an excellent job of reporting every little detail that they could find, with help of other news sources. The New York papers, the Philadelphia papers, and the Washington D.C. papers. They all played a part along with the AS, AP, etc. My husband, I and our family will never forget these tragic events, nor do we want to, because it will make this country stronger against anything like this ever happening again. Our hearts go out to all the victims and their families. God Bless America ! ! !

On September 11th, I awoke to the ringing of a telephone around 7:00 AM Mountain Standard Time. I was trying to sleep in so I went back to sleep. Five minutes later, my mother came into my room with a look on her face that I will never forget. I asked her, "What's wrong" and then, thinking nothing of it, said "what, who died?" She then told me that a plane had hit the world trade center in NYC. I had a vague idea of what she was talking about but did not realize how tall and how many people worked in the bldgs. We rushed to her bedroom to turn on CNN. At about this time, the second plane hit. I was so confused, because I realized that this was not an accident, but, at the time, it did not seem like many people were going to be hurt. We started getting in touch with family members across the nation. I had a cousin who was about to fly to India so we wanted to make sure he was safe. Almost immediately, my friends from Germany called and asked if we were safe. Being in New Mexico, we said we were far away from danger and fine. The third plane crashed into the Pentagon around this time and I found out later that a man I baby-sit for was in the Pentagon (he was safe). As the morning wore on, it became apparent that no one, anywhere, may be safe. I live near an air force base, nuclear storage facilities, two national labs , and my city, Albuquerque, came under heavy security. No one was let off the air force base and my father was sent home because he works in the FBI bldg. I went to school and the staff had set up TV's to watch the news. Class was cancelled at 2:00 PM and I went home, constantly listening to the radio or TV. I was going to fly the next week but my meeting was cancelled. I still remember hearing the sound of a plane several days later and marveling that I had noticed it and hoping that it was going to be safe. ~Christina Crawford

We live in Reno, NV. My husband was doing his usual routine with our dogs in the morning. I was in the shower when I heard a message form my co-worker to turn on the TV now. That we were under attack... I jumped out of the shower, towled off and ran downstaris to the TV where I saw my husbands face in disbelief...then I heard Katie Couric form the "Today Show" say: "If you are just tuneing in two planes have hit the WTC's" and another has hit the Pentagon... it was crazy. I thought it was something old, I didn't really know that much about the towers. Then my husband tells me this is live, and then the 2 tower collapsed... I was in total disbelief. I just started crying...I called my mother she was hysterical...all she kept saying was how did this happen how??? I could not answer her. I didn't know.
I remeber my drive to work was so erie...everybody had a weird look on their face...at work everyone was shocked and they sent us home to be with our familes...so all I did was watch the news and over and over watching the planes hit the towers...it was unbeliavable.
Today, I feel it's only a matter of time before I will wake up to anotehr terrible attack on the US. I do not fear, I know God is watching over this great country and we will only get stronger and persevere even more. God Bless America, and may the dead always be remembered and thought of as heros. Because they are and will never be forgotten.I am blessed by the Lord above to be alive and I am thankful to the Lord for allowing me to live through such a tremendous time in the World's history. God Bless America and the World. ~Carin Acuna

I was on my way to work, I turned on the radio and Mark and Brian were talking about New York and what was going on. Well, being Mark and Brian, I called my kids and had them turn the TV on and tell me if something was wrong.
My middle son came back on the phone, “Mom, there’s a guy bleeding, the top of his head is gone!” I immediately told him he didn’t have to watch. I told the other two to catch the bus to school, love you’s all around, and hung up. The gate on to the base was just as quiet as usual, they hadn’t heard yet. By the time I got to my office, my middle son (William) had called back to tell me that the 2 had made it to the bus and to fill me in on what he’d seen.
He told me the second tower was hit and the Pentagon. I told him not to worry; everything was ok, and that the people that he saw were probably just very happy to be walking anywhere.
By 8:30am it was thankfully time for William to leave for school, so he didn’t have to watch anymore.
The base finally hit Delta, we were effectively locked down, and everyone walked around in a haze. Work continued base supply must continue, the planes must fly. I’m glad there was a purpose to keep our minds off the TV.
The problems started when well meaning teachers at the schools started using words like “war” “military” “lock down” and “bombs”. My son called near tears asking if I was coming home, I said yes, of course why? “My teacher said you couldn’t leave work, and that we’re going to war and you’ll be called up” I had just re-enlisted in the USN Reserves. As a single mother of three, it never occurred to me that my choice to sign up would put me at risk so quickly. My children were in on the decision, and they were proud of their mom. Now however, things had changed.

It’s been six months, my children still watch the TV periodically for news of call-ups, they listen to the music that helped me through; U2, Live, Sting, Hank Williams, Don Henley, Sammy Hagar, Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra.
We all keep track of friends and family effected. We just had a party for a close Air Force friend headed to locations unknown, and my nephew is on his way with the 10th Mountain Division, not to mention the 2 Master Chiefs at sea. We, as everyone, hope everyone will be safe and return to us as they left, healthy.
Our prayers to everyone, God bless those who are serving their country putting their lives on the line, and those waiting at home.
